What are Static Splints?
Static splints are individually adapted occupational therapy aids that are used to stabilize and relieve joints, muscles and tendons in a targeted manner or to hold them in a therapeutically useful position. They are mainly used on the hands, fingers, wrists or forearms and support healing after injuries, operations or chronic illnesses.
Occupational therapists produce custom-fit static splints and adapt them to the patient’s diagnosis and everyday life. The aim is to reduce pain, avoid deformities, maintain or gradually improve mobility and ensure long-term hand function.
Splints can only be made after an initial appointment in occupational therapy.

Static splints in occupational therapy
Our occupational therapy splints offer targeted support for various clinical pictures and functional disorders of the upper extremity. Below you will find typical areas of application:
Pain and overloading of the hand and wrist
Pain in the hand or wrist is often caused by overloading, repetitive movements, inflammation or degenerative changes. Static splints help to immobilize affected structures, reduce pressure and avoid painful movements. The relief can support healing processes and provide lasting pain relief.- Misalignments and restricted movement
Misalignments of the fingers or wrist – for example in the case of osteoarthritis, rheumatism or after injuries – can severely impair hand function. Static splints hold the joints in an anatomically favorable position and counteract the worsening of misalignments. At the same time, existing mobility can be maintained or carefully improved.
At Mediphysio, we take a holistic occupational therapy approach: the splint is not an isolated aid, but part of an individual therapy plan – tailored to function, everyday life and personal goals.
